Your top six.

Time to ‘test’ your knowledge, your mettle, your heart over your head.

10 points for correctly guessing I mean predicting a teams final placing.

5 points for correctly predicting a team in the top six.

The poster(s) who gain most points get a pat on the back & pay £10 to the Rovers academy, (you’re on trust).

Here’s mine.

Luton
Cardiff
Bolton
Blackpool
Huddersfield
Rovers

Best of luck.

What has changed within the club?

Last season Grant was bullish from the off "we will win the league" at the end of the season he was saying "we will give league 1 a good go" which I thought ok, we are aiming mid table here. Today in his YouTube interview, he wants to win the league and wants the lads to believe.

He has a calm confidence we will be up there!   :scarf:

Fingers crossed - may be time to stick a tenner on

Yes, he's gone and said it now! Nowt like raising expectations although I suspect as fans, we'll remain a little less confident. Nothing wrong with aiming for the stars but, just getting into the play offs would be yet another big step forward. As a ball hasn't been kicked in anger yet, it'll be a while before we get over excited.

We just need a “I think we can still catch Luton” coming out his mouth in the January meet the owners meeting haha

Would love to be wrong, but with the squad as it is at the current time I just can’t see us troubling the top 10. Still think we are a striker short of the quality needed (Ironside was a passenger last season, Billy is nearly 40) and I’d still be concerned about the midfield. We don’t know how the new CB’s will go and barring JM it’s a completely new area of the team.

Would love to believe we could be up there for top 6 but at present do we really have the goals to get close. Couple of very good loan players in that area of the pitch needed imo

Personally I think we will score more goals from all over the pitch i.e defenders and midfielders scoring more than they have in recent years.

Expecting Billy to get his 10 and same with moly but expecting between 5 and 10 for the rest. Think we will score more from set plays too

1) Reading
2) Luton
3) Wycombe
4) Leyton Orient
5) Huddersfield
6) Blackpool

I would’ve have gone with ‘uddersfield as certainties for promotion but Ive factored in their new manager/coach who is Lee Grant a rookie boss and also an ex goalkeeper. I can’t think of any ex keeper who’ve been good managers - perhaps Dino Zoff but he’s the exception.

Mike Walker did okay with Norwich City, but then failed with Everton

Predicting a top 6 seems to me akin to expressing a fairly devout faith in the cause rather than making a truly reasoned judgment

If the Rovers team were unchanged from 2024/25 we could at least make some estimation of their likely performance for this coming season. As it is, anyone expecting them to get into the top 6 must be expecting them to be stronger, but without seeing the new team playing.

If people had studied League 1 last season they would have some knowledge of how 17 of the teams competed against each other plus knowledge of the 3 other League 2 promotees.

It would also be necessary to make a judgment of the variation in strength of those 20 teams.

No doubt McCann is better informed than most of us, but his optimism is surely aimed principally at the encouragement of his players.

I’d say that the champions of the league below ought to be capable of a half-way finish in the league above, but that only a team that had finished very comfortably ahead of second place would be an obvious serious contender for a top 6.
