Will flint played 67 minutes on the right of a back four as a wing back, again not his natural position but shows the manager Alan Armstrong thinks he is capable of doing a job in different positions.
Up against in form Boreham Wood they suffered a 3-0 loss at home and the fourth loss on the trot and are now flirting with the relegation positions in the national league.
He was subbed about the hour mark and replaced by Kyle Hurst as they tried to get back into the game with a more experienced wing back so not the best day for our two lads up there.
At Peterborough Sports there was no sign of Sam Brown being involved in the squad, so after doing well I would think has picked up a knock, and as an aside neither was McCann Grants son on loan from Barnsley although he was an unused sub for Northern Ireland u21's mid week so may not have been available.
Also in mid week Grehan played for Eire as the right side defender in the back line, unfortunately they suffered on the face of it a very poor result losing 4-0 to Andorra, a team not usually associated with results like that in international football.
So with injuries and a string of defeats it hasn't been the best of weekends for the lads.
Kasper Williams played the full 90 for Bridlington but picked up a booking in a feisty game at Brighouse where one of our old u18s Jack Whiting came on as a sub for Bridlington late on.

Sam Brown stared tonight v Bedford and scored the opener after 12 minutes Bedford have however equalised since but a good start for Sam.

What happens now to Faulkner? Out apparently for another 2-3 months.

There is a chance perhaps that Harrogate cancel his season long loan and he is back with us and he is then not able to get another league loan in the second half of the season. He could if he gets fit push for a place in our squad but there is still competition there now.

He is then running up against his deal ending with us in June and he will not have played regular football since early November. Would McCann offer him another deal off the back of three months with Harrogate, where by all accounts he has done a good job?

I would hope so, I know we are strong in that position, but if he could be a cheap replacement for O'Riordan when he leaves if he gets some chances near the end of the season.

Depends on how much Harrogate are paying I suppose. Sounds like he could well be back for the run-in, and they could well need him, so they might keep him if they can still afford a short-term replacement in January.

A quick update, Bobby had an operation early this morning that as far as I know went well  and will be doing recovery under the medical team at the Rovers.
Will Flint has recovered from his shoulder injury and has returned to Gateshead whether in time to be considered for this weeks game I have no idea but is fit and ready to go again.
According to Grant today he staying with us as you say under our medical team the new gym should be open next week so he have all the new facilities and he said could be out 8  to 10 weeks

Williams has moved up a level. Been recalled from his loan at Bridlington Town (Northern Premier League - East Division) to go to Stocksbridge Park Steels (Northern Premier League Premier Division).

Scunthorpe now only 3 points off the top of the National League table after an impressive 3-1 away win at Boreham Wood.

Zain Westbrooke started and was on the scoresheet.

Kyle Hurst an unused substitute.

Flint recalled from Gateshead and gone out to Buxton. Better move for him.

Is he not going in the wrong direction?

I mean Gateshead are bottom of the national league and he isn't getting sufficent game time, a team pushing for the playoffs in the league below sounds a good move even if anything but for his own self confidence as it can't be good getting beat every week at Gateshead.

Gateshead have been a bit of a mess this season, I'm sure he'll learn from that just like Galbraith did with us under Wellens/Mcsheffrey.

I have been talking to a Chesterfield supporting friend of mine who also watches quite  a few Buxton games it being his home town.
Will Flint has really impressed Chris who says he has just slotted in and has not put a foot wrong in the two games he has watched.
So a different loan and straight away doing well for himself, and is enjoying his football no doubt again.
Well done Will keep it up.

I wonder if we see Flint as more of a centre half now. The managers at his loan clubs seem to put him there, but i wondered if he could be a future answer to our holding midfielder question. As long as he's getting minutes I suppose.

He is potentially our most technical player with the ball as a defender with vision and the ability to use the ball and bring other players into the game, not the dominant physical normal central defender.
Central defensive mid field is his best position and where he effects the game the most where he also gives a side size and athleticism being a natural athlete and not slow, as well as reading the game well.

Sounds like Faulkner had a brief but good showing today, came on for the last 20 minutes or so of a goalless draw against Bromley who are top of the league.

I went to the  Buxton v Kings Lynn game to watch Will Flint for Buxton and Martin Woods for Kings Lynn who is on the coaching staff here at the rovers and has had a lot to do with nringing will through to the level he is at.
He had a good game against a good striker playing as a central defender showed good control and passing ability but in the air he was up against a bigger strong lad and was tested in that part of his game although he did enough for nothing to come of it.
That is the reason I think he has the ability to play more as a central defensive mid fielder and two brilliant individual pieces of ball control and laying the ball off under pressure makes me wonder why managers don't use him in his best and what would be a more productive position.
All round he is coming on well in a competitive league far better than u21s level, and Martin Woods looked fit got about the field for 70ish minutes doing the easy thing and breaking up play. credit to him and looks very much like enjoys the game,
A good night out and the pies and peas are the best.
