Losses

9 losses out of 19 games, just shy of a 1 in 2 failure rate.

The whole of last season we lost 10 games. So far 9 losses in less than half the season. On track for 20 losses this season, if form continues.

Staying up is aim No1.

Despite the fabled 50 points being the target, it is not usually needed in reality.

Over the past 20 years in L1, both the median and mean points needed to finish 1 point above 4th from bottom is 48.

So we would need another 26 points to have a 50:50 chance.

That would be a finish to the season of P27 W6 D8 L13

And  a full season of P46 W12 D12 L22

I THINK that is doable.

I think it’s very obvious now that Grant needed a proven striker more than he realised albeit I think most of our forum did ! I hope it’s not his downfall and the board stick with him, heres hoping that he wields his January magic on the side and pulls us away from the trap door

We seemed to cram full of midfielders in the summer; 2 of which have had to go out on loan. Can’t help but think that money could have been spent on the Ironside replacement when it became clear he was off. We also had to improve.

That said, I do think the wrong CF started last night. Hanlan offered pace and physicality against a rough and tumble opponent. Billy is not a hold up striker so when we started lumping it forward, it was a lost cause until Hanlan came on.

Having seen last night's performance I think that is an optimistic statement, UNLESS, the January window gets us a striker who can get more than 5-6  shots per game and demands being passed to and will bully midfield into going forward, like Marquis used to do. Fingers crossed that things change.

I know it’s a cliche but I’d take finishing 20th. I really am worried, that all the hard work getting us promoted will be undone.

Still plenty of time of course and traditionly we always seem to do better in the second half of the season. But the stats are poor and we are weaker in every department since winning the league.

I’m pretty confident we are better than the 20th best team in L1.

it’s a results league and that’s the only thing that will be relevant at the end of the season . L2 Champions last season but we’ve not progressed , results suggest that we’ve not stepped up to even consolidate.

We need to look seriously at the defenders already at the club when available after Christmas.
