It will be interesting to see who goes there though, in the same vein as what would we do if we made a change?

Gary Rowett one of the bigger names out there now. Oxford apparently appointing John Terry which is likely to be a hilarious catastrophe.

I get the sentiment about ‘who would we get’, but it’s also the fallacy of sunk costs to persist when it really isn’t working. Our Board should be reflecting very very seriously on how likely we are to get out of this mess, and taking the corrective action(s) required.

John Terry has posted a video ruling himself out of the Oxford job. He wants to stay at Chelsea’s academy. Probably got eyes on the Chelsea job after Maresca

Zero chance he gets paid the full contract. Just doesn’t work like that.

No, but it gives him a decent bargaining position.

I need to know what McCann has done for our fans to be so sh!t scared of what happens next if we choose to make a change? I feel he should be given the window to sort this out but I am sure there are managers out there who are well equipped to move us forward if we choose to do it. Is McCann the best we can get? Not sure. But he is if we are resigning ourselves to that being the case. Sure Coventry supporters were worried when the club sacked Robins. Look how that went.

You mean like sorting the mess the club was in, and getting us promoted, after a few or more seasons of utter tripe.

Jeez.

Yes, Grant has moved us in to a better position than we’ve been in for a while. The last 10 - 11 games of 23/24 were incredible, and winning promotion was a huge achievement and a great feeling last season.

But, he’s had investment which his predecessors did not. I would also suggest the football, apart from those 10 incredible games, has been pretty average, and occasionally cluelessly dire.

He also left us in the lurch previously when it suited him, leading to us on here calling him ‘the snake’.

We’ve had high and low points with McCann. We don’t owe him anything. If we view this season completely dispassionately it’s been an abject failure so far. Bad business, bad football, poor results.

Can he dig us out of the current mess? Not sure, maybe with a bit of luck in the loan market.

Is he the man to make us a force to challenge in this league, using the owners investment wisely, creating an effective brand of football, flexible and pragmatic and successful? I personally don’t think so.

He’s done what he set out to do. We’re out of the doldrums. It might be time to hand the baton over now.

You think he did that without the club knowing it was in a mess already? It’s why the club sacked Schofield and immediately appointed him so let’s not kid ourselves he’s come in and waved a magic wand. I’m not against McCann, I just don’t believe that he’s irreplaceable.

Good post Reg,  but I’d just like to add that whilst the discussion about GM is valid, I don’t think you can discuss him without being able to discuss the means with which he had to develop the squad further. We obviously have no idea what this season’s budget was and we never do, so it’s all about opinions. The thing it comes down to is this - why didn’t we go full throttle on Street,  when he was clearly ‘the difference’ in making us Champions last season? Answer = money. Why havn’t we signed a good, solid keeper for the last few seasons. Answer = money. Neither of those two things are down to McCann and it’s probably fair to say that if we had invested, things just may have turned out very differently this season.

Maybe the Club have realised that we can’t be ‘challenging’ at this level and above with the resources we have.

Thanks Alan, good post and reply.

My own opinion is that we have spread the funds we did have over lots of players who aren’t up to scratch. So instead of just getting a PlayStation 5 for Christmas, we got lots of smaller pressies, some of which turned out to be badly-fitting socks!

If we’d have trimmed the fat from last years squad, plus not paid wages for loads of rubbish this year we could have used those funds for that difference making player.

But then it’s all our eggs in one basket, if they get injured!

There was a good heartening chant of support for McCann at the Blackpool game.

They've just sold Ronan Curtis to Plymouth as well. He looks to have been one of their regular and better players this season. Admittedly a good result for them last time out but there is more than a hint of crisis around them.

I've been laying Plymouth all season and just this minute after seeing this  laid them at 5/1 for relegation for £10 - meaning if they stay up I win £10  Plymouth will spend more money in January

"We are really pleased to bring Ronan to the club," Plymouth boss Tom Cleverley told the club website., external

"I am delighted we have been able to bring further quality into the squad so early in the window."

Money for old rope - having said that they sell old rope on ebay.  :suicide:
