I only saw one bad finish, Clifton’s. Hanlans shot was on target at power, but the defender made an unbelievable clearance. Did we create anything else?
Hanlan should have took it earlier. But we have to accept that our forwards are mid to lower table standard. Look at Cardiffs first goal the number 8 ran from midfield after we gave the ball away and took the chance nonchalantly. We haven't got a midfielder who could do that. We gave them  to much room in midfield because we couldn't get near them. They showed they are atop league 1 side. We showed we are a no way near their standard. So today is over we move on hoping in the next can get sufficient points in our next 6/7 games other wise we are going to be relegated

Enjoyed the first half and even though we were a goal behind I naively thought we might scrape a draw lol.

Mols works hard but he has his limits. A team like Cardiff are going to know how to nullify his best effort. Hanlan is a donkey, the ball just seems to bounce off him.

We are fielding a team that isn’t as good as the one we won L2 with so we have to accept that it’s going to be a struggle. I just hope we can stay up and recruit properly for next season.

Hanlan should have had his touch and got his shot away much earlier. It was a great chance. Clifton just struggled to kick a football. It is the third division I suppose.

Yep, from the south stand it looked as though Hanlan had wildly hit his shot into the crowd but when the big screen playback came on and we saw the deflection by their defender we all thought he would have hit the back of the net had the defender not got that touch.
As for Mols not being interested, I can’t understand why anyone would say that.
In that first half an hour he was the biggest threat and even then they often doubled up on him.
After the second goal obviously Cardiff were very much in the ascendancy and it was tough for any of our players to shine.

Cardiff City submit 2024/25 accounts, a season where they finished 24th in Championship:

I’m not having Hanlon at all.

He couldn’t hold up a bank if the staff had all gone on a lunch break together.

He has no pace & when set free for the best ‘a real centre forward’ would have buried, he fluffed his lines.

Jogs around the pitch waiting for the ball.

He doesn’t close down or chase back he looks as though he couldn’t give a t**s.

We need much, much better come the summer.

Cringe at the thought he has another year to run on his contract.

You are that prick who sits behind me aren't you? The one who ignores everything Hanlan does competently, then jizzes up his vitriol over everybody the first time Hanlan fails to sprint 40 yards in a 1 man press.

Hanlan's mistake with that chance was staying on his feet when the defender ran into his back. That shove, and his lunge to stay on his feet, left the ball between his feet rather than  a yard ahead. So he had to chop his stride to get into position to shoot, and that gave the other defender the spit second to get a block in.

Short of shooting from 25 yards out, once that shove in the back had momentarily unbalanced him, he could not physically have got his shot away any quicker than he did.

I await the rants of those who will look at the unarguable evidence on the match video and still insist they are right.

The simple fact his that Hanlan is not up to L1.
Time after time when he does get away from the opposition, he just does not seem to know what to do next.
In my opinion he is totally useless and offers nothing at all.

Think it was Nudga who said that at the time, he could have gone down.

I also shouted he should have gone down at the time. But looking at the video again, the defender was canny. Shoved Hanlan in the back a yard outside the box, so there was never any chance of a penalty.

He actually did well to stay on his feet. You can see on the video how he took a lunging step to retain his balance, and that put his feet in the wrong place to be able to shoot. He had to take a couple of extra steps to sort that out. Anyone would. Then he got a pretty decent shot in, but the delay had allowed the defender to get a foot in to block him.

By the way. For those who insist he's slower than glacial erosion, have a look at that chance again. The way he beats both defenders to the ball.
