One of the worst grounds I've ever been to, Bootham Crescent. Only went once and it was cold, cramped, stank of piss and we got beat 1-0. We ended up relegating them at Belle Vue later in the season and winning the league, so did get revenge, but it was a miserable afternoon of togger.  Haven't been to the new ground but not a team I look at fondly because of that day!

Eeh how quickly we forget...

Strangely I rather liked grounds like that..

I was at the 1-1 there in 83/84, still queueing to get in when York got a penalty. Could just see through the turnstile to the middle of the penalty area.  From the away fans noise and player reactions, I could tell Peacock saved it..

I could be wrong but was that game played on a Sunday, which was quite unusual at the time?

Yes it was definitely on a Sunday afternoon, can't remember why. They were top of the league and flying. I think we were about 3rd. We were all over them and Glyn Snodin gave us the lead. We should have been out of sight but didn't take our chances, (sound familiar)? Peacock made a howler to give them the equaliser and that was it. I can't remember the penalty incident but that's probably just an age thing. They won the league by a mile but we were promoted too so happy all round. Great memories.

Currently looking good for York..

Very likely Rochdale will join them on 100+ points, yet only one can win automatic promotion.  That's ridiculous isn't it?

They win 2-1, 2 points behind York with two games to go, last one Rochdale vs York, winner takes all.

Could be all over by then if York win their penultimate game, and Rochdale don’t..

York home to Yeovil, Rochdale away at already relegated Braintree, can’t see any slip ups for either team there

Both deserve promotion, with any justice the loser of the final game will win the play-offs.

Definitely needs to be more up from the conference but the media chatter for it will be minimal now Wrexham are no longer in it. Gimps.

York’s owner is a bit of a dork so would prefer Rochdale up personally. Not that it affects us in any way of course

Think it used to be a rule in Italy that if the top playoff team had a 10 pt gap over the next team then they'd go up automatically and the play offs cancelled. Can't see TV companies going for that here.

Also a bit reminiscent of the 03/04 season after we left the Conference. Chester and Hereford battled it out to the last day:

Chester 92

Hereford 91
Shrewsbury 74
Barnet 71
Aldershot 70

Shrewsbury went up...

I think the new regulator will have to step in to force the EFL’s hand to allow three promotion places for the NL.

Living York, the City is having a sporting renaissance at the moment, Knights promoted to Super League and football club doing well.
Hearing that the council are putting up a big screen in city center for the Rochdale game.
Hope they make it after getting robbed by Oldham last season.

The maths are simple. If York get 2 more points they will be promoted.

However if they get 3 more points they might not be promoted.

I like it   :) but not strictly true  ;)

If York get two more points and Rochdale beat Braintree by a margin of 25 goals or more, then Rochdale would be promoted

It's incredible.

If York and Rochdale both win today, then Rochdale win next week, York will finish on 107 points. 2.33 ppg. And not get automatic promotion.

I doubt that's ever happened before in the history of professional football.

Short memories

in 2022-23 Wrexham won the Conference with 111 points and Notts County were second with 107 points. But County were promoted in via playoffs, but not without much drama

Not "robbed", they were beaten by a better team, and Oldham have not disappointed this season in League 2, Barnet are just outside the play offs. They have earned their place. Hopefully both York and Rochdale will make it, but play-offs produce some unusual results at times. Ask any Rovers fan who was at Stoke!

I went wild when Braintree equalised but Rochdale have scored so many late injury time winners. Should’ve known. Almost seems the refs wait until they score

Sets it up superbly for next weekend. Rochdale fans must have aged 10 years these last few weeks.

Can you imagine the BP readings of York fans after their match ended? Waiting for the final whistle to go at Braintree knowing Rochdale only drawing! A foot in the EFL door and then snatched away from them with that late, late winner!

They said on Sky Rochdale had drawn and that York only had to win to go up ......

It was very recent (over Easter ?) that Morecambe put 4 past Rochdale at Rochdale

The title is York’s to loose. They are in the driving seat. Rochdale have to win, whilst York only need a draw.
