S'OD to Bristol City
« on March 25, 2010, 10:20:35 am by biscuit »
City fan here, hello

Some spurious internet rumours/thoughts here regarding S'OD and vacant managers role at BCFC

http://www.otib.co.uk/index.php?/topic/125776-shaun-odriscoll/

I personally don't think he will join us but certainly think our chairman will at least approach him

Your Chairman would be wasting his time:

a) If he wouldnt leave us for Premiership Burnley why would he even entertain you?

b) Why would he go to a Club no better than ourselves?

At the end of the day, SOD is destined for bigger and better thing than Bristol City.

Yep, I agree

I don't think he would join City either but it appears he will be definately be approached by our chairman anyway.

We have a bit of money and the prospect of a new stadium in 2 years so that may help

if SOD did go to bristol city or another likewise club you can not fault him
can you.

sooner or later that day will come, i guess going on the fact that drfc plan not
to overspend, and SOD will wake up one morning and say to himself that 'he cant improve
rovers anymore'

it seems that when a club sacks it's manager SOD name pops up all the time, and it's the one million pound compensation that will put other chairmen off

SOD  can only achive with what the tools he has put infornt of him

Some of your fans are very similar to what we have in South Yorkshire, demanding promotion at all costs! Therein lies disappointment every weekend, try speaking to Blades/Wednesday fans to see what I mean. Good football is just as important, that way when you lose your weekend isn't totally f**ked!

There's one thing in our favour then, most clubs are having to reign in the finances these days. I don't know what the purse strings are like at Bristol City but you can bet they're going to be tighter than they were. Particularly with a new stadium to fund.

I'm with JR in thinking things might be a little easier for Rovers to compete next season, there won't be the same silly money floating about.

form the record 'i hope SOD stays' and the longer the better for drfc that is

but it might be different what could be better for SOD

present day for sure SOD is good for drfc and vice versa, but when is 'cant take rovers *further* anymore by date' in SOD's case???

*further*...did i spell that right

If he was to go now, or in the summer, two ready made replacements would look to be available:

Jim Gannon looks likely to turn down an extended contract at Peterborough as he wants to stay closer to his family in Stockport.

Tony Mowbray must surely be on his way out of Celtic soon.

Wow - £2 million compensation to WBA for 30 games in charge - that's an expensive appointment. Particularly as there will be Mowbray's \"severence package\" to deal with now.

SO'D won't be off to Celtic then - 30 games to get it right wouldn't be long enough.

It's a bit harsh on Mowbray as he is a really decent bloke with great morals and principles - a bit like our own Sean O'Driscoll. He gets his teams playing football the right way and is well respected in the game.

Everything what could go wrong for him at Celtic has gone wrong though, and I'm not surprised he's been a victim of a big club mentality. Results were poor at times - that is absolutely undeniable, but he should have been given more time in the job to see what he could achieve next season.

He'll be back in management soon. Good luck to him! He's a genuinely decent bloke.

You could argue it was harsh but Mowbray knew that going into the job things were not going to be easy. Over the years the Celtic fans have become accustomed to success and they have won nothing this year. Added to this, they are 10 points behind their bitter rivals who have played 2 games less.

It's a results business, and Mowbray has not delivered results. They were knocked out of the Champions league (ok, no great expectations there) but then also out of the Europa league where they played dismally and failed to qualify from a relatively weak group.

Unfortunately for Mowbray, the gap between them and Rangers needed to be bridged and it has widened considerably. The fans were never going to accept this - and he knew that when he accepted the job, so he really can't have any complaints.

Like you, I'm sure he'll be back in management soon too - but I reckon he'd better pick his next appointment with his head and not his heart!

Obviously JR thinks Sean can take us further, mate.  A little bird tells me that Sean has had a payrise and an even longer rolling contract.

hello, me again

a bit more news from our side - well, not really news but dodgy internet rumours...

Right, heres a little bit of \"info\" I have recieved...now take it how you want, im taking it with a pinch of salt

Lansdown wants O'Driscoll, but until Donny are mathmatically out of the play-off race, they will not allow anyone to talk to him, or make any kind of approach. O'Driscoll is said to be interested, but wants to at least finish this season....unless they drift to mid-table. We may see him down the Gate yet this season after all

http://www.otib.co.uk/index.php?/topic/125903-official-managerial-announcment-millen-given-4-more-games/

To sum up the thread, we have a caretake manager for the next 4 games then a new manager will be announded before the final 2 games of the season

So according to you then, when Lansdown is telling the media that he has had a high quality of application, leading people to think that ex international & premier league managers have applied, he is fibbing and what he really should say is that only Brian Laws is desperate enough so we have to wait until the summer to try and get O'Driscoll - but Laws will still be the first choice anyway!
