How far we have come ...
« on June 11, 2010, 07:49:27 pm by Norfolk N Chance »
re rejects .....I think the dark days are well and truely behind us....the gulf between the 1st Div and Championship will grow and grow!

I'd settle for 2nd tier football no worries!!!

Sheffield Wednesday have signed striker Paul Heffernan on a two-year contract, following his release by Doncaster.

The 28-year-old is manager Alan Irvine's third signing in as many days, following deals for midfielder Chris Sedgwick and defender Jon Ostemobor.

Heffernan told BBC Radio Sheffield: \"It's been a bit stressful the last few weeks trying to get things sorted.

\"There's a lot of people out of contract. I'm just delighted to get it sorted and I'm raring to go.\"

The Irishman joined Doncaster in 2005 but went out on loan last season to Oldham and Bristol Rovers, who had been confident of signing him on a permanent basis.

Heffernan scored 53 goals in 160 appearances for Rovers.

The signing will be a blow to Carlisle boss Gregg Abbott, who revealed to BBC Radio Cumbria he had been in talks with the forward about a move to Brunton Park.

\"We have been talking to Paul for over three months. We did have a chance and I know he was choosing us above other clubs but we couldn't compete with Wednesday.

\"I think if they hadn't been relegated we would have got our man.

\"People need to know the level of player we are looking at. It's not always going to happen but he was a target on my list and we have missed out on that one.\"

Heffernan was out of his depth at championship level, he proved that when ever he was given a start , He was a good striker that we kept too long, but our problem is that we never seem to want to freshin' things up until we either loose a player to injury or lack of form. if we want to have a successful season this time round we have to learn from past mistakes and not wait the length of the tranfer window before making our apraoches and stop J/R from misleading our fans of what he is expected from the season when he knows that funds are just NOT there to persue targets . \"we've NOT got Paul Heffernan\" or body else at the moment .

I completely disagree. Heffs got double figures in our first season in the CCC in half a season when SoD decided to start playing him around christmas. The thing was that we had to change the way we play slightly and thats why he didn't get a look in this season because Billy suited our style of play.
Yes Heffs didn't look interested after he came back from Brizzle Rovers towards the end of last season, but can you blame him? He was being shoved out of the door in the summer and didn't even want recalling from his loan.

Are you joking? If owt, Heffs proved he could do it at this level given a consistent run.

Heffs is a injury prone player, and SOD is aware of this. This is why, Heffs was out of favour with, SOD, IMHO.

I have read that three times and still can't make any sense of it. Can you just clarify for me that: you think neither of our past two seasons at Championship level have been successful, that you dont' believe we have made any offers yet for players in this close season (despite us being quoted as making one for Billy Sharp) and that you think John Ryan is a liar? That's without even mentioning Paul Heffernan.

No point asking if your glass is half empty or half full is there?

Again, totally and utterly wrong.

Go and rsearch his stats, particularly Championship games played v Goals - then come back and apologise for that comment.

Heffernan IS out of his depth in the Championship, when ever he was called upon to show his metal he could not , he was limited in his playing style and was NOT an impact player even coming off the bench  , for Sharp , Haytor, Sheils, could all find something in their game to make a difference , he could not rise to the championship's work rate, that is why we gave him away because no one wanted to buy him , a 3rd division team has picked him up because they see what you do not, that he is poacher only , and their game is limited to the long ball game of the 3rd tear of the English League , Al his stats prove that he did it ALL in League 3 . and 4 , NO WHERE ELSE.

Ok Billy, let him have it......post Forest and all that. You would be well in your rights too. Actually, is it worth it?

Heffernan kept us in the Championship in 2008/2009!! End of. He has and never will be an impact player. He is a guy who needs games under his belt. Good Luck to him - If he stays fit he will score 20 goals for Wednesday. I work in Sheffield and I have told the Owls fans what a striker they have got for only a signing on fee!!

Rovin Reporter does not believe what he's writing.

Isn't his type of post called a 'flame' -- ie write utter b*llocks in order to get a response. It's like saying JET is lazy! From that perspective, King Alick would hardly have started a game for us in the 63-69 period. You don't have to run around like a headless chicken when you have class.

Paul, SOD treated you badly. I know you loved Rovers, and you were pure class in the five seasons you spent with us. Your goals got us promoted, and the season after they saved us from relegation.

The Owls are lucky -- you will notch 20 goals for them next season. You were one of the best Rovers strikers I've seen in my almost 50 years as a Rovers fanatic.

I'll follow your progress with interest!

Brooker had a weak ankle. Once he his rehabilitated, he should be fine.
