Heard from Cussy at half time. He said we should have been winning. I think we just need one to go in off someone's arse to get things rolling.

Well, my first ever match, and apart from the loss, was cracking!  Beautiful day, we met up with Berkshire, and Gareth who kindly gave me a Donny scarf!  :-)   Saw David James. which was kind of exciting except he moved(!!) the ball to get a better angle on a kick!!! #$%%^^&**((   Nice.

Saw Woods and thought he did a very good job, and happy he has signed a 2-year contract.

But, Cussy, where were you mate??  I had reconnaissance do a quick sweep of the stadium and nowt!!  Sadly, my Rovers kit had not arrived yet, but I was probably the only one with sunglasses on!  ;-)

Any hoo, many thanks to my Coal Hole mates for a great day out!!

I had a walk round before KO and HT, looking for a shirt with 'Sandy Lane' there on. Never saw it, and can see why now. Had I seen it.....well who knows what we could have done in 15mins

My fault Cussie, the shirt was with me on Sat morning, but I couldn't get over to Bristol, and Berkshire had set off so no courier either.  To be fair, the club shop sent it 1st class post Thursday so it should have been with me Friday... am I boring anyone yet?

I'll let you off as you hail from the land of the modfather.

Did you make Berks do the Gypsy lifting curse. The score suggests not?

We're actually going to sacrifice Berkshire on Thursday night Cussie (see other thread).  We figure Sandy Lane must have a gun given she's American, so it should be straightforward.

Weller (and Rick Buckler I think) was brought up on a council estate called Sheerwater which they built just after the war specifically to ship loads of folk from Paddington who'd been bombed out.  Generations have stayed on the estate and so they all still sound like Londoners (as does Weller of course) and they tend to be QPR/Fulham/Brentford/Chelsea fans.

PW now lives in a village about 5 miles outside Woking called Ripley.  Eric Clapton actually lives in the same village but I don't think they have any interaction as such.

These and other interesting stories can be found in my book retailing at all good bookshops blah blah blah...

Can't say I've been to Woking. I've always assumed it posh, but I get the feeling it may have it's rough areas as Surrey go's. I feel for the Woking lads as it sounds more down to earth, unlike Virginia Waters and Ascot, and then there's Eton and I just cannot see the Woking Lads being a match for their untamed Wit.

Yes, a little known fact Filo, Paul Weller is also a brickie - proper City & Guilds.  Still keeps his hand in a bit round our way - he's doing a dwarf wall for next door's conservatory as I type.  Surely you remember \"Bricks and Mortar\" from the \"In the City\" album? - a nod towards his first love!  ;)

I know someone who knew Weller as an apprentice brickie. An absolute beginner he was. He worked regular nights on the Stockwell Tube modernisation. Always down the tube station at midnight. The boy loved his tools though and had pet names for all of them. His favourite was his trowel called malice

I bet he was chuffed when he got a start as a brickie, especially going underground to work, he always bought a newspaper on the way to work, on a Sunday it was the News of the World

Snap....I was just going to say that.

The brickying gave him a good start in life, but after a few years on the tools and earning plenty of pretty green, the changing man that he is, he quickly downed tools for a spell, and went a bit soft taking up a hobby as a butterfly collector, before finally marrying his English Rose (I think David Watts was his best man).

......I make that 7 by the way

I remember one story he told about a day on the building site, Jewsons had mixed up the sand and aggregates on the lorry and he couldnt make the gobbo to lay his bricks.  He said it was like pebbles on a beach.

He had trouble with the consistency of the gobbo that Long Hot Summer and it affected his Ever Changing Moods. Still, he always said it was The Best Thing That Ever Happened as he accepts that he was a bit immature in those days - he would often Speak Like a Child, particularly if he was in a Strange Town, but he now knows that This is The Modern World and he can't indulge in the Dreams of Children.

Paul Weller came round our house just as I was getting ready for a night out at the Park Hotel in Mexborough with BST.  I would have answered the door but I was changing, man.

While Stan was busy getting his gimp suit on, I had a round of golf with Weller. A bit up and down. He had a pin-accurate wedge but a wild, wild wood. Anyroad, we finally had the night out and Weller got his tops and fingers with a Mexbro lass. I thought her dad was a bank manager but he reckoned she was only a shopkeeper's daughter.

It's not widely known that Weller has a sideline as a football agent. He rang Lewis Guy a couple of years ago and said, \"Lad. Time for truth. You run about with the speed and organization of a headless chicken with a Taser up its ring. I wouldn't say you're the best thing in football, but you'd be good enough for Division 3. Come to MK Dons. They have very disciplined fitness training. No circuits of the pitch, just running on the spot. They're playing PSG in a friendly so if you sign today you'll be in the team for the Paris match. Keep going to the end of injury time lad and you might get a late winner two hours after kick-off. The fans won't recoginse you so they'll all be asking, \"Just who is the five o'clock hero?'\"
