Is there a better drink....

than a tumbler of neat Laphroaig? The only possible contender I can see is a tumbler of Lagavullin instead.

As you may guess, I'm sitting here with a bottle of Laphroaig, cork out, and a really lovely cut glass tumbler. And it's bloody wonderful.

Love the stuff!

Aye. Try Booker's.

Like f**king rocket fuel but with a gorgeous oak barrel flavour.

I've never even heard of 'Bookers'. What the dickens is it? It's the taste of the peat I like Billy. I suspect oak won't have that pungency....

It's a bourbon from Jim Beam. Nothing like the normal Jim Beam stuff though.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Booker%27s

Stupidly expensive in the UK (£70 on Amazon) but I got a bottle for $35 in the USA last month.

Bourbon? Bourbon?? Bourbon??? How on earth can you say that Billy? If it was the last drink on Earth I wouldn't go within 5 miles of the stuff. Putrid. Rancid colonial nastiness. It has no depth. No fire. No soul. It's all blow your head off with that first gulp. A proper drink builds up in the mouth, the throat, the stomach. It burns you slowly. It lingers. It transforms. It builds and fades like the waves on a shore. What it is not is a high explosive bang in yer gob.

Cheers :)

Is that what you say to the ladies to talk them into something?

Back to the point, I was on home made sloe gin last night!  Happy new year folk!!

Must admit, I've been enjoying a Laphroaig or two recently. And I got a bottle of the stuff for Christmas. Very nice!

Mind you, I was on Polish beer last night.

Normally I'd agree with you Bob. But Booker's has a surprising depth to it. Starts off like firewater but settles down to a really deep, satisfying smoked wood depth.

Bleeding hell just had a quick look on ebay to see how much it is , only to find that an empty bottle is going for more than i'm willing to pay for a full one.  :( Enjoy ,  but i won't be joining you.

Imperial Best Bitter - brewed in Mexborough on the premises and a real favourite of mine - although they do several different Brews as well !

I Must confess Billy, I shall have to go look up this Bookers. You've got me all curious. I suspect oak won't be strong enough for a palate jaded by half a lifetime of smoking but I'd like to try it all the same. Any Bourbon that excites anything except contempt has to be worth at least a tiny little look. And btw,  30 days from now I shall have been stopped for 2 years exactly :)

Cheers

I too like Laphroaig for that peaty taste, so strong is it I think it tastes of burnt rubber, bizzar I know but extraordinarily good.

Last night though, I had a glass of Bowmore 12yr old.  Pretty basic as Bowmores go but wonderful smoky peat very much like Laphroaig.

For anyone who hasn't tried, whatever whisky or whiskey you drink, try it with a little water (not tap water), only enough to take the burn from your mouth, you'll find it actually increases the flavour because your taste buds can sense every nuance of the wonderful stuff.

I like a nice single malt and most drinkers have a favourite. My current favourite is Monkey Shoulder. Had some of that Beckham muck over Christmas and wouldn't spend money on it myself.......

Famous Grouse does me fine. So does Grants. Not Too keen on Bells, but I don't say no if that's all there is!

I also had 2 bottles of Grouse and a bottle of Bells, plus a bottle of Grants, a bottle of Whyte and Mackay and a bottle of Gentleman Jack bought me!

My family definitely think I'm an Alky, but in my defence they were combined Christmas and birthday presents due to the close proximity of both events!

I like a drop of single malt, and for a smooth taste I would recommend a basic Glenmorangie.  A good one for single malt starters.  Laphroaig is an acquired taste but great too.

I tend to get 4-5 bottles over birthday(November)/Christmas that last me the rest of the year.

:) Following your post BB I'm a bit unsure if I should confess... But here goes. I have 6 bottles, half of them litre bottles, of different releases of Laphroaig. And I'm sad enough to have spent a bit over 100 quid on a half bottle of the 21 year old they released in 2015 to celebrate their 200th anniversary. If they'd sold proper bottles I'd have bought one of them. I've also got 3 different bottles of Lagavulin. That's a helluva Scotch too. One of mine, unopened as yet, is worth £475 on The Whisky Exchange :):)

Anyone like Talisker?
It's my favourite at the moment.
My daughter bought me a bottle of Jim Beam last year. It was disgusting.

Ardbeg is the smokiest whisky I've ever sampled. Like chewing the end of a log that's been smouldering in a peat fire. In a good way.

It's been on my list of 'things I must drink' for a while. I better do something about it hadn't I?!
