Agreed might be the making of him because it was becoming clear Fergie wasn’t going to use him unless he had to.

Make or break time for him, I think Fergie is making a smart decision. His performances and apparently attitude have been lacking this season so he knows he needs to impress at Col U to have a future with us.

He not getting it with us as he is now well down the pecking order behind Marquis, May, Beestin and shortly Kiwomya. So going out on loan makes good sense.

It's a shame it's come to this but I think he didn't quite show the same signs as last season. The injury hampered him (again) so he's had fewer chances to shine. When he has come on, a couple of times he's made errors. His brief appearance on Saturday was pretty good.

I hope he does well and comes back a better player for it!

Not that long ago DF would have turned down offers for the new prodigy.

I've a feeling that a big part of the plan here is to give him a freshening up by putting him in different surroundings and with a different coach/manager.

Added to that, we probably needed to offload some wages to enable the two centre backs to be paid for. It could well have been one of him and Alfie May up for loans and Mandy was the one who was wanted first.

We've enough up front to allow him out.

Really? From what we have seen lately we have nobody up front to worry the opposition.

apart from Marquis if he goes on a run, I think he will score more than any other striker we have got to the end of the season.

imo he should be starting for us behind Marquis upfront and if he got a run there i'm convinced he'd score goals. Now it only leaves us with Marquis and May up front and neither are going to score a decent amount of goals

So Butler signs a 1 year extension – I’m OK with that because whilst I thought he was shocking a couple of years ago, he’s been quite dependable this season.

But Mandy gets loaned to Colchester until the end of the season. I’d far rather have him in the squad than May who is now clearly useless

Kiwomya, Beestin, Marquis, May and Longbottom as cover.

Whilst having one other like Mandy would be handy, it's not necessary. He'd be on recall if we absolutely needed him. He has been showing signs of being stuck, needing something to help kick him on to the next level which we all know he is capable of. I don't think May needs that same nudge at this point.

Competition between those 5, especially May and Beestin, should keep things fresh up front. Of course it would be great to have someone even better, but funds are limited, hence what I suggested above.

And May completely useless? I disagree.

Something I've always wondered, who pays the wages when a player goes on loan? Parent club, club the player is loaned to or 50/50 split?

BRR can’t recall hes there till the end of the season, loan rules changed.

Longbottom still recovering from injury and yet to play in development games. Kiwomya just getting back from serious illness and we all hope he can produce in League 1.

Depends on the deal. Most likely when a player is loaned down the leagues or to a less wealthy club, at least some of the wages will be paid by the parent club.

Oh right, so there's no 'one rule', every deal could be different. Thanks BRR.

I'm sure (well, hope) that this is just a stage of his development & will be beneficial to him AND the club in the long run & if he plays regularly there it'll be a boost to his confidence.
Also if he wants he can pop round for a cuppa 😀

I hope we insist he gets a certain amount of game time as well

The player loaned stays on the owning clubs payroll and gets his pay packet each month as he would do normally.

The two clubs decide on a loan fee. That fee can be paid on whatever terms the agree. I.e lump sum up front, monthly installments etc.etc.
