Cobblers v Rovers
« on December 05, 2020, 12:37:30 pm by RoversAlias »
Less than three days removed from what must go down as the sourest defeat of the season, Rovers are back in action at Sixfields against Northampton this afternoon. And fans will be present!

Yesterday I wrote the latest "ITEN Fly-By" touching on today's game among other topics: https://www.intotheemptynet.com/post/iten-fly-by-hull-hurt-northampton-knocking-sims-smiling

You can also check out the "It's all Cobblers to Me" podcast which I appeared on to discuss Rovers and the game earlier this week: https://podcasts.google.com/?feed=aHR0cHM6Ly9mZWVkcy5jYXB0aXZhdGUuZm0vY29iYmxlcnN0b21lLw&ep=14&episode=NGI4ZGQ3ZDItYmMyYS00OTk1LTg4YzEtNTE0NGU4MGI1Zjcw&pe=1&pep=0

If that link doesn't work, you can also find it by clicking through here: https://twitter.com/CobblersToMe/status/1334806088282222593?s=19

Right then, how are we all feeling about this afternoon?

If someone told me we had John up front and Butler on the wing I'd believe them.

Not sure what to make of that, surely it will be 3 at the back with that personnel, and try and overload midfield

It's either a 5-3-2 or an utterly bizarre 6-3-1...which I can't imagine is the idea!

We shall see. To be honest I forgot about Butler the last couple of weeks!

I’m looking forward to this one. Looks like we got pace and width up front with a quality striker

If he plays a back 4 with butler right back and John left back.
Then we’re in trouble

Interesting selection..  3-5-2 or 3-4-2-1.?

As long as we are more effective than in the last game that will do..

Can’t watch this as I’m at work and my lunch break isn’t that long.!!

John-Jules
Richards Sims
John James Whiteman Halliday
Butler Anderson Wright
Lumley

That might work.

Not even going to try and guess how we’ll line up there. Hopefully it works - if not I think Moore could be in for some pretty severe criticism.

Come on someone - where are they plaing Butler ?

Centre of a back 3 with James and John as bombing on Wing backs ?

I'll go with 3-4-2-1. I suggested 3-5-2 the other day, but it looks like there's only one striker in there.

The only other way I can think is as a flatter 5-4-1.

John and Halliday as full backs. James and Sims as wingers. Whiteman and Richards central and TJJ as a lone striker. Can turn into 5-2-3 fairly easily in possession too.

Halliday and James as wingers making it 4 3 3 most of the time? With Sims, JJ and Richards up front.

Butler is surely the easiest to predict - he’s going to be at centre back. Surely even Moore wouldn’t put a 37 year old old-fashioned centre half anywhere else?!

James and John are both left footers Wolfie; Halliday will be the one on the right.

Bizzare team selection. If not sure wing back will work if we’re expecting Cam John to play there. Last time I was really confused by team selection we won so hopefully it works somehow

If we’re playing 4 centre backs and 2 fullbacks (potentially both in midfield) then the lads on the bench must be guff! Why sign loklio and Williams if they can’t get a hand now... crimilar with Lokilo especially we had him half of last season so should have known if he’s garbage

Just bought my match pass and going to tune in in 5 minutes. Hopefully the players start at the same time as the rest of us for once!

Wow. I really hope it works out for DM today but what a bizarre team selection.

I know Northampton are a big physical side, but 4 centre backs, and 2 full backs potentially in midfield roles? Strange indeed.

I would've thought after what has happened in recent weeks, and with players coming back, that he might be able to see the wood for the trees and simplify things a little bit, but it looks like he's just digging deeper and deeper with complicated systems and playing people out of position.

It'll be interesting to see how it works out.

IFollow commentator just said that Wrightbwill be RB and Halliday in midfield.
Time is 2.59 and home team not even out of the dressing room yet.

The 4-2-3-1 is sacred, apparently.

Halliday on the right wing.
