Black Bank was an area near the new stadium.

When it was first suggested people seemed to like, though quite a few joked when have Rovers ever been in the black at the bank?

If anything, it should be the Lady Bank Stadium.
Not the "Lady Garden" then ?   :)

Yeah, lady bank has obvious problems. Mi lady.

Perhaps a corporate sponsor isn't so bad...

Or we could go all religious about my lady... Nah.

Thanks Muttley, an old aunt of mine live down Black Bank, I remember visiting as a young kid and the name Green Dyke Lane.

I remember the 2 up 2 down cottage but can't remember exactly which street it was in. The house an end cottage looked south over an area that wasn't built up, I don't think the roads were sealed.

Fascinating map you’ve linked to Muttley, wonder when Barnby Upon Don changed its name to Dun? But that’s getting  away from the thread.

Muttley thanks for posting that link, it’s amazing looking at Sprotbrough and where we live now and it all being part of Sprotbrough Hall.
I can remember the area around the outlet and ground being called Black Bank in general and housed a gypsy camp I think.

Walk down the river from the Toll house 300 yards down look up and you will see the Balustades which are all that remains of the Hall

The grounds were between Melton Rd and the river, looks like the hall was where Park Drive is

Crikey. Park Drive. Remember that. We used to hang around there as teens in the early 90's having walked through Cussy park, under the A1 underpass, through the fields to what was then Shire Stores on the corner. They were the only place that would serve schoolkids with booze. Other than Sunnyfields Stores in Scawsby, depending who was serving.

Always was reminded of those God awful fags without filters we sometimes smoked as kids too. I think they were called Park Drive so sticks in the memory.

This is turning into the reminiscing thread.

Getting back on thread point, and tying a few threads together.
Sports Direct Stadium. Newly appointed SD chief and Doncaster born guy, looks to plough money into home club, with a promise of champions league football in 5 years :s :silly:

Nah, I owned the place.

I employed Wolfie as a gardener, but it had to be part-time as he was 75 at the time.

Yeah, I remember the Parkies; Woodbines were better though.

I still walk round Cussy Park most days.

Yep. Was my stomping ground growing up. Still visit infrequently when back in Donny visiting family but so many memories of Cussy. Was a 5 minute walk from our old house.

The Fury Stadium would be a great name.

in fact a great Doncaster marriage  :scarf: :scarf:  IF YOU DON'T ASK INVITE TO SPONSOR YOU DON'T GET

Bournemouth in the 4th division asked if they could take Jermain Defoe on loan from West Ham and to their amazement West Ham said yes ---- the rest is history --

So when 5ft 7in Jermain Defoe produced a moment of magic that left manager Sean O’Driscoll feeling the need to apologise to the opposition bench on Boxing Day 2000 (from 10:30 in the video below), it stood out like a sore thumb.

“Definitely the best goal I’ve ever seen in the flesh,” says supporter Tony Mays, who has been following Bournemouth for 40 years.

Not sure why it can’t be called for example the ‘Eco Power Black Bank Stadium’ then when the sponsor changes just put that in front of Black Bank, we would have some permanency then. I’m sure that’s what Rotherham’s has, sponsor name then New York Stadium.

Correct DVR.  Our stadium is known as the Aeseal New York Stadium.

Just for interest (accepting there'll be little interest on a Donny site for the Millers) the stadium is simply named after the area it is built on, namely the New York area of Rotherham.  It was known as that on Victorian Ordnance Survey maps.  The name comes from our county town - the city of York.  It's nothing to do with the Big Apple in America.

the Æseal New York Stadium

would be easier on the eye  :coat:

of course you all know :-

Æ (lowercase: æ) is a character formed from the letters a and e, originally a ligature representing the Latin diphthong ae. It has been promoted to the full status of a letter in some languages, including Danish, Norwegian, Icelandic, and Faroese. It was also used in Old Swedish before being changed to ä
