There is an option to set crowd funder to 0 - that's what I did.

Would be great to see support for her from the VSC Forum members.

Not sure how up to date this is ................

''Neglect of player welfare is something women’s football must address fast
Basics such as medical care and insurance are being left behind and players are paying with their careers in a growing game''

It’s going up faster than JR and Tomlinsons crowd funder.

If Doncaster Belles come under the Club Doncaster umbrella then surety medical insurance should be taken out to cover these types of injuries and surgery. We have women representing the club and they are not covered with medical insurance does not seem right.

Is there medical insurance available for part-time footballers?

I have just had a quick look on google and straight away Sport health insurance is there to cover amateur and professional sports people. Therefore I would expect the club would know more but surely this ha to be done to cover any more of our women football players.

Even junior Sunday league footballers have to be covered by insurance.

Junior football teams have to have an insurance policy in place in order to be affiliated with their County FA

Can’t understand why the club wouldn’t be covering this either directly or via insurance

Was the injury sustained playing football?  if it is not covered by the clubs insurance and as a player the player is covered for injury while playing for the club and in training, surely the club have no responsibility towards the injury as far as compensation is concerned.
If the injury requires specialist medical attention beyond the medical staff at the club then the only option is private or NHS attention the funding of the private medical is not the responsibility of the club if the injury was sustained away from the the club.

Quote from Free Press
In September 2021, I turned my world upside down when I completely ruptured my lateral meniscus and caused severe trauma to the main ligaments in my knee while playing football

Doesn’t say whilst playing for (or training with) the Belles:?

Nonetheless it’s a terrible injury for her to deal with and I hope she can come back stronger..

Just for some clarity, Sophie suffered this freak injury during a Belles training session.

She was informed she would have to wait 80 (Eight-zero) weeks to have the operation done on the NHS.

Her consultant told her that if she waited that long, then there would be no chance of her playing football ever again, never mind engage in sport.

Hence her decision to go private, where she could be up and running again in 9 months if all goes well (no guarantee of that of course).

No idea whether Club Don are financially supporting Sophie in this, so will hold fire on commenting on that.

IDM, post 23 from BVB above.  He doesn't say where he obtained the information but if correct it was certainly related to her duties for the Belles.

As outlined in my earlier post, the injury was sustained during a Belles training session.

My information is directly from Sophie herself.

Just done a little insurance research:

Under the FA “National Game Insurance Scheme”, it’s compulsory for amateur clubs eg in WFA NFL pyramid /affiliated to local county FA (in our case Sheffield & Hallamshire ) to have:
A) public liability cover.
B) personal accident cover.

So Belles will have this, otherwise they wouldn’t be allowed to compete.

Player injuries suffered would come under B) above.

FA use BlueFin Sport as their national broker, and is used by County FAs across the country.
.
Having scanned the “Summary of Benefits” (on p4/14) we can maybe work out why Sophie feels the need to raise the money herself to go private, as the lump sum payout for eg. a ruptured knee is £250….

Follow the links here to have a look for yourself. I also checked other county FAs and the “benefits” are similar.

Sheff&Hallamshire:
https://ngis.bluefinsport.co.uk/county-fas/find-my-county-fa/sheffield-and-hallamshire-fa/

BlueFinSport summary of benefits p4:

I have no idea to what extent Club Don may or may not be helping Sophie over and above their insurance responsibilities, so won’t speculate, but like everyone on here I would like to think they are.

Hope this helps

OK, maybe the £5k is the insurance excess. With the limited information we have, it doesn't reflect on the club in a positive manner.

Perhaps the insurance for amateur players covers things like loss of wages if they can’t work, rather than medical costs?
