Mcsheffry interview
« on December 27, 2021, 03:37:01 pm by Retdon1 »
It’s sounds to me like he’s getting the job tomorrow but I really hope he didn’t mean it when he said we will try to add 1 or 2 additions in January.... 1 or 2 ???? We need a whole new team

We have 8 first team starters out injured. We cannot keep adding permanent players on to the wage bill. We do still pay players when they are injured. If Vilca and Cukur go back we can get two loans in, so 1-2 good permanent players on top seems about right. Who knows with our truly terrible injury record but I think only Fejiri is out definitely this season, rest will play some part, some potentially back next game.

Anyone who thinks 1 or 2 new player is all we need are wide off the mark imo.

I wouldn’t read anything into anything right now. And right now he’s right to say ‘we’ because it is ‘we’ - he’s part of the club and will remain so whether he’s first team manager or not. He will have insight given his month of so with the squad.

As someone employed by the club they're going to have a meeting with him either way just as a courtesy. Doesn't mean he's got it or not.

Liam Hoden did say a few days ago that 2 loan deals and several permanent deals had been lined up so far. You would think we’re sending all the loans back apart from Galbraith so 2 more loans will be needed too

Questioning in that interview particularly towards the end was pathetic again from a journo with too little respect for the answers he'd already been given.

You could almost sense when GM said "Have you been told I've got the job?...(so shut the f*ck up then!)"

Some will read what they want into what he said about signings and repeat it when it suits, while the rest take things with a Liberal pinch of salt.

It's a shame there are folk who just want the clubs hierarchy to fail so that after so many years of promotion, relegation, play offs, ups and downs, they can finally say "I told you so!"

If any of these rumours are true we are still heading for league two.

Well I was told they’re talking to 4 players, 2 loans and 2 permanent.

That as I suggested earlier is the right number. We cannot keep spending forever. Given Cukur and Vilca have not really worked out, two loan lads of the quality of say Ennis or Wilks would make world of difference to this side. With two permanent players on top, then the other senior lads to come back over the next few months.

We have n’t got the next few months leeway, it needs to be early January, no later, we are only just afloat now, we’ll be sunk in the next few months

Its a good start, 4 won’t be anywhere near enough to stay up though

We can’t be signing half a dozen players on permanent deals. If they did, they would only come on long deals and big money, given relegation is reasonable case this season. As we have seen with Bogle and Williams, it is nigh on impossible to move on contracted players to make way for new lads. We would end up with a huge squad of contracted senior players. It’s very unfortunate that we have lots of people injured, but we can’t be bringing in direct replacements on permanent deals, it’s not sustainable.

Contrary to what you might think, DBR, I don't answer to you.

We have seen what good appointing managers from previous players does us, so if McSheffrey gets the job the board have learned nothing.
And if we only have a maximum of 4 new players we are still going to struggle to escape the drop zone. We have too many dire players right now.
Wait until the end of the season before telling me I am wrong.

It will if they are they are all of a league one standard and good seasoned pros. You'd have thought with the substantial funds plus any savings from returning the current loans, we be in the market for some quality.

Fingers crossed, we’ll need to do a Burton though… Didn’t JFH bring 11 players in January?

You said if any of these rumours, so only fair to get your clarification so everyone can see. You put it out there not me!

So ok. If McSheffrey gets the job and we only sign 4 players? Fair do's.

IF Januarys plan is to rid ourselves of Smith, Dahlberg, Cukur, Vilca and replace with 4/5 players of genuine experience and quality then why not allow GM a crack at it with a squad thats been refreshed. If we can also move on a few that arent good enough we will be heading in the right direction. Id be happy for GM to take the reigns if thats the case. Some people just want to see a new face and its not always the answer. Remember these so called applicants have been failures at other clubs so, what makes you think they will flourish with such a big change of personell to a club you are walking into who are also in a big relegation fight. Imo it probably makes more sense to appoint GM unless Klopp or Pep fancy a change.

Got to send Cukur and Vilca back. There is also no point in keeping Dalberg to sit on the bench. Be better suited with an extra outfield loan player. We could try and sign an experienced keep on a 6 month deal to challenge Jones

Substantial funds
This is where problems start for me , in reality that's possibly 2 new players , because we are sending 2 loan players back.

Think we need 11 new players but being realistic when they mentioned substantial funds knowing 2 or 3 loan players are getting sent back , the minimum I would be expecting would be possibly 6 new players
