Anderson played his best football when he had an experienced cb partner alongside him…….Butler. He’s not had that since and he’s been blighted by injury, so has lost consistency of performance. Wood could turn out to be a masterstroke of a signing for us - if, indeed, he stays fit!

Some good signings by our competitors.

MK Dons have signed Cameron Norman.

Gillingham have signed Max Clarke as well as Jonny Williams.

In McCann's latest interview about Tyler Roberts, he was asked if we're done or any more to come in. He said he'd like one more in the attacking area to provide competition for the long season. We've got options in place but this may take a little longer so we'll see how we go.

Come on Billy lad, tha dunt wanna go Rovrum surely!!??? (Only kidding before Cbcb tells me he's not coming! Ha)

Now that we’ve signed Ironside and Roberts, I’ve warmed to the idea that Billy would make more sense. And what other rotation player would take more time to sign than others?

Free Press quoting McCann saying our final signing is attacking player and that “his current club is aware of our interest” which means this lad at least is under contract, so it is loan or permanent. This then means out of contract players for instance Billy Sharp, are not in the frame.

The ‘swingometer’ seems to have gone over to Malik Wilks?

This to me sounds like a PL club who want a look at a young player before letting him out on loan. Could be wrong. Wilks will be off to L1 though, surely.

7 attackers for 3 positions that would be. Would someone like Hurst need to be loaned out?

Could be any one of the following

A player where there's competion for his signature and said player/club could be waiting for the best option.

Or, a player who a club might want to offload but we've we're submitted a loan bid with a view to a permanent later.

A young highly rated player where there's competition for a loan.

Or a player under a standard contract that doesn't expire until 30 June

This clip makes it sound like the deal is done - or at least informally agreed - and it's a matter of when, not if. It does sound like a loan deal to me with the reference to his club "letting him out".

Not necessarily..  3 starting, 2 on the bench, 2 covering injuries/suspensions and rotations.?

Really good interview in full. Hopefully everyone raring to go now.

Very much sounds like a loan player to come in. Quite often young players take part in their parent clubs pre-season schedule so that could be the reason why more 'when' than 'if'.

Training ground primed and ready.

Loved it when he called the stadium ‘The Keepmoat’, then smiled & asked ‘What’s it called now? Well it was always The Keepmoat to me”.

Has it really been a month since we signed anyone.

Unless I've lost track, this is how we stand at the moment. Are we done?

Gk 1 - Lawlor
Gk 2 - Jones
Gk 3 - Bottomley

Rb 1 - Sterrie
Rb 2 - Seaman
Cb 1 - Wood
Cb 2 - Anderson
Cb 3 - Olowu
Cb 4 - Faulkner
CB 5 - Long
Lb 1 - Maxwell
Lb 2 - Senior

Cm 1 - Rowe
Cm 2 - Close
Cm 3 - Biggins
Cm 4 - Westbrook
Cm 5 - Broadbent
Cm 6 - Bailey
CM 7 ?

Fw 1 - Hurst
Fw 2 - Molyneux
Fw 3 - Miller
Fw 4 - Taylor
Fw 5 -  Ironside
Fw 6  - Sotona

Fw 7 - Lavery ?
Fw 8 - Griffiths ?

I might be tempted to keep Lavery. Much will depend if he can get fit before the window closes of course.

You are missing from there Degruchy, Ravenhill, Goodman and Kuleya who are part of the first team squad, but are likely to head out on loan, probably along with Bottomley, and also missing Tyler Roberts who is on loan to us.

Not wishing to split hairs but all five of those are listed as first team players. Yes, they are likely to be loaned out but are part of the first team squad. I make that point as it does show the huge size of the squad we have now. We must be carrying a significant wage bill, certainly compared to last few seasons.

If we want to compete we need options, though maybe a bit too heavy on the amount we have.
I would use the EFL trophy to give a few games to Lavery and Reo, it either puts them in the shop window for others to look at and keeps them fit for if they are needed.

The young players need good loans at a decent level, if all they can get is way down the pyramid it might be better to retain them around the squad. Bobby for example needs either a good loan or to be around the first team. He can learn a lot from just watching a player like Wood.

It will help us hopefully compete a lot better though. Players like Hurst will have less fatigue and can be used at their full for better spells.

5 subs has made it a much bigger squad game almost a bit like rugby became.  90 minutes is much less common now.

That’s a very decent squad we have.
Plenty of options and much more creativity than we had last season.
Expect McCann to get much more out of Hurst and Molyneux than DS did last season.
Competition for places in every position which will focus the players.
If they don’t perform there is someone to come in and replace them.

Yes this is a very competitive league and on paper the top 9/10 look stronger than last season.
Having said that I think we have one of the best 2/3 managers in this league and I expect us to be at least challenging for a top 3 place.

The difference this coming season is that with McCann in charge we will generally be on the front foot more and pressing higher up the pitch. This should result in less pressure on the defence and hopefully conceding far less than we did last season. I think we as fans will be on the edge of our seats and we will probably be involved in some high scoring games which we will win some but also lose some. Can't wait to get started & see some exciting games again.
