« on May 04, 2010, 10:04:13 pm by The Saturday Boy »
just heard the Gaz Roberts has signed for Derby today. I hope this is not a sign of things to come.

All the best to him though, he has served us well.

I really hope this isn't the case. He's had an excellent season and always has a great attitude.

Nothing on Wikipedia, and that usually the first place these rumours turn up.

I wouldn't be surprised at all at Roberts going to Derby.

LOL!  Yes, just after he made his 20th appearance for us.

I hope not.

If true, it is further proof that if you piss players about and keep them waiting, they will just jump ship to a club that shows the most desire to get their signature.

Sad day for Rovers if this comes true.

That is one theory.
It might also be possible that Gaz Roberts is recognised as an established championship player and is moving to a club who require an established championship left back, and who can offer him substantially more in wages than we can.
If that is the case, there's not much the club can do.

If this turns out to be true, exceptionally pissed off would be the word(s) to sum up my feelings!

I always felt that we were taking risks, by not signing key players up before the end of season. I thought we would have learned this lesson from losing Greeny for free! Fair enough allow the contracts of squad players expire, but not members of the starting 11.

After the talk of 'this is the season where we can really do something special' etc, and 'mouth watering' signings it would be a real disappointment to lose a player like Roberts only 2 days after the end of the season! Hopefully not true, but Gartom could you please give us some clarification on the matter!

To be fair it would be easily avoided by the club if they signed up key players with expiring contracts before they become available…

As far as I am concerned a left back is not one of our prime areas in need of strengthening at the minute, any money we may have to spend on a left back could have gone towards areas where we are struggling!

He's 32, he only has a few years left in him at this level. He knows that, we know that. If we dawdle and don't offer him anything, Derby could quite easily nip in, put a couple of grand more on the table for him, and he's off. It is completely plausible and I wouldn't be surprised if it happened tbh.  :(

The OP is a wind up merchant, he comes on makes a post without any back up and then pisses off without clarifying where he got the info from. It is the silly season after all, there`ll be plenty more that come on here and post shite

I'm afraid to say that The Saturday Boy is a pretty reliable source and imagine this will be confirmed in the next couple of days! As in Greeny's case, money talks at the end of the day.

Thanks for the service you have given the club Gareth and good luck with the rest of your career.

Another theory is.
Gaz's Agent is not happy with the Rovers relationship with him(the agent) anymore,Another younger agent is getting a bigger slice of the action. He therefore throws out the dummy and threatens to leave with as many of his players at Rovers that he can pursuade to move to other clubs.IF and its a big if he leaves I believe it will have more to do with his agent than Robbo wanting more money.

Also Im confident that Rovers are fully aware of the risk's and IF a 1,2 or even 4/5 players leave due to failures in contract talks they are more than capable of replacing any player, often with BETTER players. As much has I loved him and repect him for what he did at Rovers,Did Greeny leaving have any effect on the clubs progress at all? It's easy to sit there and say we should'nt make the same mistake again but what could the club do to stop Greeny leaving?Match the £12,000 or so as rumoured to be offered by Derby? We are having such a hard time trying to sign Billy sharp with similar wages to stop any wage war.Imagine what would have happened if Rovers had given Greeny a contract of around £12,000 a week?We could'nt match wage offers to keep Ritchie and Millsy. We Still improved and became an even better team.

Rams forum

Just had a look on the above and Clough apparently told fans at a forum tonight, that they had 'pretty much signed an experienced left back'.

Later on in the thread a few people saying it is Roberts.

Good post. I can't say following any players leaving recently that we have rued that decision. Mainly Greeny for sentimental reasons but other then that,Wellens has been replaced and improved upon with Oster (providing he signs again) and Mills was replaced by a better all round centre half in Shackell.

Actually, Greeny went for more than that.  Cant blame him, and if these rumours are true, cant blame Gaz either.

JR said after Greeny went that we wouldnt lose our best players for nothing again - hopefully that is still the case.
