Why has this never been done before though? For flu as an example. Thousands of potentially avoidable deaths that most didn't give a second thought for years but now these very same advocates of compulsory vaccines to 'protect others' for Covid are literally losing their shit with their overt displays of self righteousness and hypocrisy.

Makes no sense.

Just listening to a debate on the Ian Collins show now about some docs slating the unvaccinated for causing avoidable deaths, mainly their own however due to being unvaccinated.

Why were these docs not out on the streets protesting for mandatory flu vaccines prior to Covid?

It is this illogical behaviour and inconsistent behaviour that makes some people overlook these myopic doctors.

What about those thousands of mentally ill patients committing suicide because the NHS won't see them or treat them or the waiting list is about 60 years? They are also avoidable deaths. With treatment they can recover. What about the treatment that THEY need to avoid death?

They aren't Covid related though so the NHS doesn't care about them as it isn't 'trendy'.

Not drivel. Speaking from personal experience.

Waited 2 and half years for a hernia op and also been waiting 2 years for effective mental health treatment.

If it was Covid or vaccines then i'd be sorted asap.

Believe what you like. I know what the truth is in my life. Clearly you have a different view.

Perhaps i should rephrase what i said to reflect actual reality.

'......the NHS doesn't care about them because it's not COVID'

There. Amended for accuracy.  :)

CDH.

The issue is that COVID is far more transmissible and causes far more serious illness than any normal flu.

Even with vaccinations, over the past 5 months, COVID has been killing and hospitalising people at a rate similar to that in a normal flu season. And that has been mainly over summer and autumn.

The issue now is that if Omicron is either or both of a) significantly more transmissible than previous variants or b) producing significantly more serious illness, then even WITH the vaccines, we would face a winter wave way bigger than even the worst recent flu season. And that is why it makes sense to be cautious until we find out more about Omicron.

It isn't a conspiracy, but if you see conspiracies everywhere, you're not going to see this straight.

We already know about Omicron. It is a variant of Covid that will spread, infect lots of people and sadly some will die. Until the next variant comes along and does the same thing. Rinse and repeat until the end of time.

However, it seems like this charade of endless panic and restrictions will be allowed to continue.

Heard the best one this morning from a scientist
As we don't yet know the full symptoms of Omicron If you have a sniffle you should isolate for a couple of days just in case

Looks like the Omicron effect is starting to show up in our daily numbers. There's been a very sharp rise in the daily positive test numbers since about 25-26 Nov which is around the time that the first Omicron cases were found in the UK.

Thing to watch now will be hospital cases over the next week. If they start rising equally quickly, we are in for a very rocky run.

Fingers crossed everyone.

I heard it too.

People are still taking these people seriously.

Personally i'd like to start listening to the science that doesn't influence the MSM and the Government. Then we might get a balanced and rational approach to this.

Ok, to get some idea of why Omicron is very, very worrying, see this.

https://mobile.twitter.com/TWenseleers/status/1467883156846092298

It is by FAR the most transmissible variant so far. Which means that when it gets established, without some form of action being taken, it will go through the population like a dose of salts.

Given that we already have community transmission of Omicron in the UK, it's inevitable that cases are going to go through the roof over the next few weeks. Just hope and pray that the vaccines blunt the worst effects, or we are heading back to lockdown in the New Year, maybe before.

As I said earlier, watch out for daily hospitalisation numbers this week. If they start heading up towards 1000 per day, we are in trouble.

This year's Royal Institute Christmas Lectures are about Covid. Could be worth a watch. There's three lectures, just after Christmas on BBC4.

The government really cannot win, they have had criticism for not locking down early enough, for imposing restrictions now that are too heavy handed especially for air travel, and any business with a vested interest in self preservation such as hospitality, travel, and the arts kick up a fuss at every restriction that is brought in that effects them. It really is a Rock and a Hard place helped by the nobody tells me what to do brigade.
If it wasn't so serious it would be very funny, and with very well off people like Elton John kicking off about the amount of money it is costing him at times it is simply hilarious.
On a TV broadcast this morning it was stated that over 90% of those hospitalised at the moment are not vaccinated, that is the problem. Giving them hospital treatment is a given, the conversation should they be given that treatment is another conversation all together.

Which tv broadcast?

What is now classed as vaccinated though?

Anyone who hasn't had a booster yet is classed as not fully vaccinated, even after having 2 jabs.

We elect a government to make the ‘hard’ decisions during times of difficulty, decisions made to protect the mass of the country’s population.

If those decisions include restrictions on air travel, large gatherings of people, the ‘enforced’ wearing of masks in public places, cancellations of ‘non-urgent’ operations or full lockdown then so be it.

We’re in the throes of a pandemic & that has been the case for over two years & could well be the case for the next two or more years with the real possibility of even more transmissible variants of covid rearing their heads as we now brace ourselves to deal with the Omicron variant.

I don’t have a business to run but I’ve had an operation put on hold for the foreseeable future, three hospital consultations cancelled in the past two years & understandably so as the NHS frontline staff gear up for another testing time on the near horizon whilst still dealing with patients suffering from covid as they have since early 2020.

‘I’ve had to cancel my holiday again’……do me a favour.

Anyone who describes the current situation in the country as “…a charade of endless panic & restrictions” needs a reality check & a good slap.

Should people who are injured in a motor accident be refused treatment owing to them being on the road and at risk of an accident?

The largest single group of unvaccinated people in hospital are children under 12 btw.

Gotta love the DFP.

Claiming that at the moment, 7 out of 10 in ICU at DRI are unvaccinated.

What about the previous weeks when there was no mention of this in the paper? Was this because in most weeks, the number of jabbed patients in ICU are greater than the unjabbed?

My theory is that they wait for weeks and weeks when usually the numbers of jabbed in ICU outnumbers the unjabbed, until the law of averages says that one week the number of unjabbed patients will outnumber those of the vaxxed and then they jump on it, go to the press about it and spread their bias.

Thus convincing people that this is the norm. Followed by the obligatory statement from an official reminding us to stick the rules and get our jabs.

Just a theory but we know that stats and data can be manipulated to suit an agenda don't we?

Also, tell us the ages and co-morbidities of these patients please.

If this is true, it’s probably down to the fact that this govt knows there will be a significant proportion of the population that won’t give a flying shit about restrictions over Xmas. Call it covid fatigue. That miserable lull after new year May get a little more notice though.
Some more interesting months ahead.

Poland will tighten Covid-19 restrictions in the face of the Omicron variant and introduce mandatory vaccinations for medical staff, teachers and the uniformed services from 1 March 2022, Health Minister Adam Niedzielski has said.

Even the fully jabbed will have to isolate for 10 days if they get Omicron. Not much point in getting jabbed and testing yourself then really. Do vaccine passports not now work for Omicron then?  ;)

Perhaps it’s down to the possible increased transmissibility.  Damage limitation. Reduce the spread. Flatten the curve I recall is a term used last year.
